About Football Express India - Indian Super League - I-League

Real Madrid defender Marcelo Viera is reportedly set to leave the club following the conclusion of this season as per the report in Spanish outlet El Nacional

The 33-year-old arrived in the Spanish capital back in 2007 from Brazilian side Fluminense for around €6.5 million. The defender has made 530 appearances in all competitions, scoring 38 goals and winning five La Liga titles and four Champions Leagues in this time.

According to the report, after struggling with fitness issues. The Brazilian has found it difficult to break into the starting eleven. The defender is way down in the pecking order after Ferland Mendy and David Alaba at Santiago Bernabeu. So a long relationship between the two parties is looking likely to fall apart at the end of this season.

The report further claims that Marcelo could be open to a move back to his boyhood club Fluminense if he leaves Real Madrid at the end of this season. The defender has already contacted Los Blancos president Florentino Pérez and talked about the desire of returning.

Marcelo ready to leave Real Madrid next summer:

Los Blancos are looking to freshen up the squad by signing young talents. Offloading the old stars who have passed their best. Marcelo is one of them who Real Madrid will happily let go and clear up the wage bill.

The defender hasn’t had a great time over the past few campaigns after winning the Champions League back in 2019. He struggled to stay fit and replicate his old form. So, letting him leave will be the right decision for the Spanish giants.

Meanwhile, after a disappointing few games, Real Madrid has returned to their best by winning the last two games against Shakhtar Donetsk and Barcelona. Los Blancos will be looking to keep their winning run going when they meet Osasuna on Wednesday night.
