Matthijs de Ligt could be Manchester City’s new signing

Matthijs de Ligt is rumored to be Manchester City’s next Ruben Dias. The Premier League giants are hoping, Juventus put him in the market.

Pep Guardiola‘s Manchester City hasn’t hesitated to sign players at a whopping price. For example, they signed Joao Cancelo, Aymeric Laporte, and Erling Haaland, recently from Dortmund. That is to say, none of these transactions cost them below £50 million. Now they are looking forward to signing Matthijs de Ligt.

de Ligt & Dias combo?

Manchester City signed Ruben Dias from Benfica for £65 million in 2020. The Citizens were happy to have him play at the rear part of the Etihad Stadium. The Portuguese made 90 appearances for City and in fact, clinched the Premier League title twice.

The defender kept 27 clean sheets, blocked 8 shots, and above all made 50 tackles. The former Benfica player cleared the ball 233 times and recovered it 243 times. He’s won 113 aerial battles and made 4 assists and even scored twice.

City isn’t happy with one defender pulling all the strings. In addition to Dias, City is looking for another player who can strengthen the center-back position. As a result, with the transfer window open, Manchester City was linked to the Dutchman playing in Serie A.

Should de Ligt sign for City?

The former Ajax prodigy started 117 times for the Bianconeri. Moreover, he’s found the net 8 times and assisted on 3 occasions which are great for a defender. During his time in Italy, Matthijs lived up to his £103 million price tag that Ajax slapped.

The Dutchman blocked the opposition’s chances 76 times and made 80 interceptions and a staggering 208 clearances. He’s in fact won the Scudetto twice in his 3 years’ time in Turin.

In conclusion, securing an £86 million contract for the Juve player this august seems to be a very worthwhile choice for Manchester City going ahead, much as their agreement to capture the former Benfica teenager was.
