Messi to stay at Barcelona if the conditions improve?

About Football Express India - Indian Super League - I-League

Lionel Messi would not be leaving Barcelona if the situation improves. According to French journalist Julien Laurens, he might stay forever if he decides to sign a new contract.

The 33-year-old Barca skipper has been currently enjoying a brilliant run of form as his club is unbeaten in 18 matches in La Liga. Although his club crashed out of the Champions League, the club can still win the remaining two trophies – La Liga and most likely, the Copa del Rey.

The former competition would be a tricky one as Atletico Madrid are marching forward with a 4-point lead over the Cules. But, time will tell whether Messi stays at his club as Ronald Koeman is building a squad for the future.

Messi could stay at Barcelona forever

Messi initially decided to leave his club after a spat with the Ex-Club President Bartomeu. However, he refused and the details were revealed in an interview he gave to La Sexta.

“It was far from easy for me to say I wanted to leave the club and the city….the family wanted to stay here, this is their home but I genuinely felt it was time to go. If I leave, I would like to leave in the best way and later return to contribute to the club. Barcelona is bigger than any player.” – Lionel Messi after he decided to stay at Barcelona.

As per Laurens, the French Journalist, the Argentine forward hasn’t decided about the next season. He also believes that PSG would be the first club to convince him for a move to the French capital if Messi leaves.

“If he stays now, he stays forever. If he decides to leave, there are only two clubs right now who can afford him, who can sign him, Manchester City and PSG.” – Julien Laurens on Messi’ future.

Newly appointed President Joan Laporta had pledged that he will try his best to convince the 6-time Ballon d’Or winner to stay at Barcelona. Additionally, Messi broke the record for most appearances for a single club surpassing his former teammate Xavi.

“I take the opportunity to say again that I will try to convince Leo (Messi) to stay with us. That is a must-do task, I will do all I can. He knows it.” – Joan Laporta

Hence, it would be interesting if the veteran goalscorer decides to stay. However, teams like Manchester City, PSG, and Inter Miami are interested in signing him if he decides to leave.
