WHO HAD A BETTER 2020; MESSI OR RONALDO?

Even without Barcelona scooping any major trophies in their bags during the 2019-2020 season, Messi had somehow made a fruitful contribution to the team. The little Argentine provided a total of 23 assists – the highest in top five leagues of Europe, along with netting 26 goals in 32 appearances making him the top scorer of La Liga.

As for Ronaldo, who finished the season in style scored 41 goals – the highest in all competitions. He also helped the Bianconeri get hold of the Serie A title and Italian Super up, by scoring 31 goals in 33 appearances. However, the Portugal superstar was just shy of 5 goals to be the ultimate top scorer of the league, by overtaking Lazio‘ hero, Ciro Immobile.

WHO REIGNED OVER THE YEAR?

Both players have been exceptional, but Cristiano Ronaldo has been remarkable.

Despite testing positive for Covid-19, and having missed the first few games of the season, his comeback has been impressive throughout making him the most dominant player in 2020.

MESSI AND RONALDO IN 2020/21 SEASON:

Barcelona and Juventus, the both, wrapped up 2020 with disappointing games. Ronald Koeman and Co. were held to a 1-1 draw by Eibar at the Camp Nou, while Andrea Pirlo’s side suffered a bitter 3-0 loss to Fiorentina at home.

Regardless the year-end results, Ronaldo started the 2020-21 season with a bang. The Portuguese has scored 14 goals in 11 games, and is currently ruling the top scorers chart in Serie A.

As for Messi, with his wavering performance has managed to score only 7 goals in 14 La Liga appearances. His dip in form is most likely due to the matters circling the club, which for sure has left him in a state of complete dissatisfaction.

Furthermore, both players began their new year by securing tight and tempting wins for their respective clubs. Ronaldo contributed two delicious goals, helping the team in an overall victory of 4-1 against Udinese yesterday. Meanwhile, Messi’ delightful assist to Frenkie de Jong marked a nice 1-0 triumph over Huesca.
