They say you slump when you reach your 30s, but the two titans — Leo Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo don’t tend to. Because day after day, year after year, and performance after performance the dynamic duo keeps on getting better.

In spite of having 36 candles blanketed on his cake in February, Ronaldo is still ageing like a fine wine. As for Messi, who will be rolling in his mid-thirties this summer, is splendid like always.

Moreover, the two have graced this beautiful game for the last 15 years. Glueing millions of eyeballs to the screen, whilst displaying their magic on the pitch. The stellar souls have also been a brilliant aid to their respective clubs and country.

Messi – with his alien-like intervention has helped FC Barcelona and Argentina reach the heights of sporting glory. Meanwhile, Ronaldo – with his superhuman and extraordinary skills has been of great service to Juventus, his homeland Portugal, and former clubs.

With sharing multiple Golden Shoe, Ballon d’Or and other accolades between each other. The two have been exceptional in world football having etched their names among the “G.O.A.T’s”.

Besides, they have redefined history with their unique greatness these past years, and will surely continue to do so till they hang their boots. And amidst the awful year, Messi and Ronaldo both had a notable 2020.

So let’s take a look back on their noteworthy performances last season.

Even without Barcelona scooping any major trophies in their bags during the 2019-2020 season, Messi had somehow made a fruitful contribution to the team. The little Argentine provided a total of 23 assists – the highest in top five leagues of Europe, along with netting 26 goals in 32 appearances making him the top scorer of La Liga.

As for Ronaldo, who finished the season in style scored 41 goals – the highest in all competitions. He also helped the Bianconeri get hold of the Serie A title and Italian Super up, by scoring 31 goals in 33 appearances. However, the Portugal superstar was just shy of 5 goals to be the ultimate top scorer of the league, by overtaking Lazio‘ hero, Ciro Immobile.

Both players have been exceptional, but Cristiano Ronaldo has been remarkable.

Despite testing positive for Covid-19, and having missed the first few games of the season, his comeback has been impressive throughout making him the most dominant player in 2020.

Barcelona and Juventus, the both, wrapped up 2020 with disappointing games. Ronald Koeman and Co. were held to a 1-1 draw by Eibar at the Camp Nou, while Andrea Pirlo’s side suffered a bitter 3-0 loss to Fiorentina at home.

Regardless the year-end results, Ronaldo started the 2020-21 season with a bang. The Portuguese has scored 14 goals in 11 games, and is currently ruling the top scorers chart in Serie A.

As for Messi, with his wavering performance has managed to score only 7 goals in 14 La Liga appearances. His dip in form is most likely due to the matters circling the club, which for sure has left him in a state of complete dissatisfaction.

Furthermore, both players began their new year by securing tight and tempting wins for their respective clubs. Ronaldo contributed two delicious goals, helping the team in an overall victory of 4-1 against Udinese yesterday. Meanwhile, Messi’ delightful assist to Frenkie de Jong marked a nice 1-0 triumph over Huesca.

Both teams will now play away from home on 7th January. Barcelona will be playing against Athletic Club and Juventus will face Serie A leaders, AC Milan.
