Lionel Messi left Barcelona last season in what was the most surprising storyline in the footballing world. The Argentine has ruled the sport for more than a decade giving the Barcelona faithful so many unforgettable moments. However, the Greatest player of all time did not have a happy ending at the Catalan club.
The Blaugranas had to pay the price for poor club management. Former President Bartomeu and his team had destroyed the club’s financial state entirely which put them in massive debt. The club could no longer afford the massive wages it was paying to its top players. President Laporta won the elections and promised to provide Messi with a contract.
The 2021 season ended on a good note for Barcelona as they won the Copa Del Rey. The team was finally finding its pace in a long time under manager Ronald Koeman. Lionel Messi was set to put pen and paper to a new deal till 2024. But it was a sudden shock for the World as Barcelona announced that Messi could no longer stay. The reason was the massive salary limit that Barcelona had already reached and adjusting Messi into it was impossible.
But things have taken a big turn at Camp Nou. The club is spending massively in the market, having sold its Television rights. This has generated massive amounts of money for them. The likes of Raphinha, Kessie , Christensen, Lewandowski and Kounde have been signed. The club has pretty much had a perfect transfer window strengthening every position.
Messi Might Return To The Camp Nou In 2023
Lionel Messi currently is enjoying life in Paris. The exit was an emotional moment for the Argentine but Paris Saint Germain were the first one to pounce. His current contract in the French Capital ends in 2023, which opens the door to a move back to Camp Nou. Coach and close friend Xavi is a big fan of the genius and would welcome him back to the Nou Camp.
However, Messi’s relationship with the current board might be a hurdle in the way. Moreover, it is not known how an aging Lionel Messi will fit in this already star-studded team. One can argue that Lionel Messi will be a guaranteed starter in any team in the world but it will be interesting to see what role he will have if he comes.
