Pep Guardiola takes a dig at Borussia Dortmund’ recruitment process

About Football Express India - Indian Super League - I-League

Just a few days before Manchester City hosts Borussia Dortmund for the Champions League quarter-finals, Pep Guardiola has taken a dig at their opponent by saying that the squad that Dortmund has been building has been achieved by paying enormous money to the agents.

Pep Guardiola is one of the most decorated managers in the World. He is currently managing The Cityzens. He has won every possible trophy with them since being appointed in 2016. However, his most major collection, the Champions League trophy is missing from his latest cabinet.

After managing Barcelona B, he took over the 1st team in 2008 and made Barcelona the first Spanish side to win the historic treble in his debut season as the manager. His team was unbeatable and was declared the best side of the decade. His time there came to an end after 14 trophies in 4 years.

Pep joined Bayern Munich in 2013. He won every single German title possible but was not able to win the Champions League there. He left Bayern after 3 years and started his journey in England.

Pep Guardiola says Dortmund pays a lot to ‘agents’ to get young talents

Manchester City are on the verge of winning their 3rd Premier League title under Pep Guardiola. Along with that, if things go well, they will also be winning the quadruple, becoming the first English team to do so in the process. They are alive in every competition, however, their doubts will be rising in the Champions League.

City have always cruised to the quarter-finals, but have never been able to surpass. This year they will be facing Borussia Dortmund in the quarter-finals. They will be the favourites heading into the match. But Dortmund has a massive gun in their hand, Erling Haaland, who has been on fire will be the one to look out for as he has been on a scoring spree in the Champions League.

After their 2-0 win against Leicester City in the League, Pep praised their next opponent in his interview. The Spaniard said that he has huge respect for the German side. He is aware of the threat the young side can bring. However, he didn’t hold back when it came to the topic of capturing young talents.

“They spend a lot of money on young players and pay a lot of money to agents to bring these players there. Because they have incredible quality. Incredible. Maybe they didn’t find this season the consistency in the Bundesliga to win every week but for two Champions League [knockout] games they are able to do anything.” – Pep Guardiola on Borussia Dortmund and their transfer policy.
