Miralem Pjanic had a troubled time at Barcelona. The Bosnian came from Juventus in a player + cash deal for Arthur Melo. As good as a player he is, Pjanic never got the time to show his class. No Manager at Barcelona has trusted the 31-year-old for a starting sport for the team. At Juventus, he was the driving force of the team and his transfer to Barcelona is a big failure. Under Koeman, Pjanic did not get playing time at all which was not appreciated by the fans at all. But with the arrival of Xavi, Things were beginning to change as Xavi confirmed that he wants Pjanic to stay.
Despite this, The Bosnian midfielder wanted playing time and did not hesitate to move away from Camp Nou. In 2021, he went on loan to Besiktas and returned to Barcelona in the summer. On his return, Pjanic was not really thought of having a chance to compete with De Jong and Busquets for a starting role. But Xavi trusted him and decided to keep him. However, the club was looking to decrease wages and let go of players with a wage limit very high. This saw Pjanic joining Sharjah FC this summer. The move took place very late because the transfer window rules in the UAE are different.
The midfielder recently had an interview and it is fair to say that he was not happy with his exit.
” The decision to leave Barcelona was not easy, an extraordinary team with players and fans, everyone feels united. My exit was not easy for anyone, Xavi told me that he wanted me to stay and I did the full pre-season, I convinced Xavi that I had quality, but at the end of the first matches I could not show my value, at the beginning of the season I expected to play more. I was at the biggest club in the world but if I can’t do something I can’t be happy, I love to play,”
‘The difference in training sessions was huge’: says Pjanic
Miralem Pjanic did not shy away from his worst time at the club under Koeman.
” I was surprised by the training with Koeman, it was without intensity, without tactics and without ideas, we did not prepare well for the matches, but with Xavi it is different, the training is good. As i expected, my relationship with Xavi and the technical staff was perfect, the way he played and how he prepared matches was better than how Koeman did. The team now has clear ideas and plans.”
Pjanic also talked about the young guns of Barcelona. The midfielder talked about how Pedri and Gavi can dominate the midfield for the next decade.
” Pedri is an amazing player, I think Barca has an extraordinary midfield player for the next ten years. Gavi is very young and his quality speaks for itself on the pitch.“
