Prince Boateng Creates Controversy via Podcast

FC BARCELONA

Prince Boateng To Barcelona

Early in 2019, when the team was in severe need of an offensive player, Barcelona made one of the surprise additions in Kevin Prince Boateng.

The young talent, formerly of Borussia Dortmund and Schalke, signed a six-month loan agreement with Barça and played in just four games.

It’s safe to assume that KBP’s time at Camp Nou did not go as expected because the player left Barcelona at the conclusion of the corresponding season.

Podcast Incident

Boateng, who is now retired, recently made an appearance on Rio Ferdinand’s podcast and stated that he was compelled to refer to Lionel Messi as the finest player in the world.

“I recall that when I first came to Barcelona, they questioned me right away about the finest player in the world. I had to lie and pretend it was Lionel Messi. He claimed, “It was one of the biggest lies of my life” (via Diario AS).

Normally, I always speak the truth, but in this case, it was necessary to lie in order to wear the Barcelona jersey.

Boateng Takes a Dig at Messi and Barcelona

Boateng said, “I’m sorry for the Barça supporters, but I always backed Real Madrid when I was a teenager. Cristiano Ronaldo has my heart. However, they informed me that if I didn’t say that, I wouldn’t participate.
Following that, Kevin Prince Boateng talked about Lionel Messi and how he was a teammate while playing for Barcelona.

Messi was the team captain, but in the locker room, he was somewhat quiet. We once chatted in the showers, and he inquired about my ability to score goals in Italy given the presence of Ronaldo at the time.

Ronaldo was indeed playing for Juventus when Boateng joined Barcelona. However, both he and Messi continued to hold a fierce rivalry at the time.

Messi, though, pipped his great Portuguese counterpart in the years ahead, winning the 2019 and 2020 Ballon d’Or.

The Argentine is in contention to win the 2023 Ballon d’or as well, though he faces great competition from Erling Haaland and Kylian Mbappe.
