PSG 1-2 Manchester City: UCL semifinal Player Ratings

Manchester City defeated PSG by 1-2 in the most waited match of the week. Thus, Manchester City is a little closer to the finalist place in the Champions League. The match was the recommencing of the passionate rivalry between PSG and Manchester City. 

The first half was initially dominated by PSG thanks to their reactivity and motivation. The first goal came via a Marquihnos header at the 15th minute. However, Kevin De Bruyne equalized the score at the 64th minute allowing Manchester City to get back into the game. A few minutes later, it is Riyad Mahrez who confirmed Manchester city’s victory with his goal.  

Despite the exceptional efforts from Angel di Maria, PSG was unable to break down Manchester City. The Parisian team took 4 shots on target but none of them ended up in the goal. Moreover, the hosts lost Idrissa Gueye in the 77th minute because of a red card.

Goalkeeper

Keylor Navas (4/10):- Keylor Navas did not have a good game between the posts of PSG. The goalkeeper did not seem to be in his best days. 

Defenders

Alessandro Florenzi (5/10):- Alessandro Florenzi did not shine this Wednesday against Manchester City. Phil Foden pressed him a lot in the first half. The Italian couldn’t handle the young Englishman.

Marquinhos (7.5/10):- Marquinhos was the best of the PSG defenders, scoring the opening goal in the first half with his legendary header. He was great at times, but was not helped much by his teammates. 

Presnel Kimpembe (4.5/10):- Kimpembe has unfortunately badly managed his endurance which was the cause of a bad second half. It is partly thanks to his mistakes that Riyad Mahrez was able to score the victory.

Mitchell Bakker (4.5/10):- Mitchell Bakker had a good first half and showed some nice acceleration. However, he was badly outplayed by Mahrez in the second half as PSG struggled to contain Manchester City.

Midfielders

Marco Verratti (6/10):- Marco Verratti had a solid first half, he had good possession of the ball. Despite his efforts, this game did not allow him to make his best performance.

Leandro Paredes (5.5/10):- Leandro Paredes made a series of excellent tackles in the first half! In the second half, he lacked self-control and was whistled for a yellow card.

Idrissa Gueye (2/10):- For this match, Idrissa Gueye will be remembered for his horrible tackle on Ilkay Gundogan, resulting in a red card, which made PSG even more vulnerable in the final phase of the match.

Forwards

Angel Di Maria (7/10):- Angel Di Maria caused a lot of trouble to the Manchester City back line this Wednesday. The very skilful player made a very good game overall.

Neymar (5/10):- Neymar was very impressive in the first half with some nice team actions. However, he totally disappeared after the equalization of Manchester City. 

Kylian Mbappe (4/10):- Unfortunately if many expected the well-known double of Kylian Mbappé, the player was not very much in the forefront during this match. Injured a few days ago after the Ligue 1 match against Metz, the Parisian is maybe not totally healed.

Goalkeeper

Ederson (7/10):- Goalkeeper Ederson couldn’t do much to stop Marquinhos’ accurate header in the first half. Otherwise, he was able to remain careful during Kylian Mbappe’ runs.

Defenders

Kyle Walker (7.5/10):- Kyle Walker had a very good game, especially in his offensive phase. It is sure that the player was a big obstacle for Paris Saint-Germain. 

John Stones (8/10):- John Stones was excellent in the back line of Manchester City. He had an exceptional offensive discipline and he redoubled his efforts after half-time. 

Ruben Dias (8.5/10):- Manchester City woke up in the second half after the equalizer. On his side, Ruben Dias was constant and good since the beginning of the game! 

Joao Cancelo (6/10):- Joao Cancelo had a hard time defending on Di Maria. The Portuguese managed to stand out rather well and make a good game overall.

Midfielders

Rodri (8/10):- Rodri was a very good teammate from the beginning to the end of this semi-final. He was well organized and made very nice passes.

Bernardo Silva (6/10):- Bernardo Silva played his game cleverly by giving space on the field to his teammates. He will have worried the PSG team during the whole game. 

Ilkay Gundogan (8.5/10):- Ilkay Gundogan was one of the key players for Manchester City especially during the second half.. He was the victim of a horrific tackle by Gueye that earned the PSG midfielder a straight red.

Forwards

Kevin de Bruyne (9/10):- De Bruyne’s goal may have had a bit of luck, however, the goal allowed the equalizer with PSG. He succeeded in seeing such possessions and in receiving good key passes.

Riyad Mahrez (8.5/10):- Mahrez was by far the best player for Manchester City in this meeting. since first half, Riyad Mahrez showed his flair. The Algerian wizard most notably scored from a free-kick.

Phil Foden (7.5 / 10):- Phil Foden didn’t really do much in the first half. However, the player caught up in the second half.
