PSG wants to replace Mauro Icardi with Milan’s Rafael Leao

AC Milan secured the Scudetto in the 2021/22 season due to strong performances from the players in all departments. However, one of the standout performers for the club was Rafael Leao. The Brazilian played on the left wing for the Italian club and scored 14 goals in 42 appearances.

Rafael Leao also contributed 12 assists across the 42 fixtures as AC Milan wrapped up their league win. Luis Campos, the new sporting director of PSG wants to sign the Brazilian for the French champions. Mauro Icardi was signed from Inter Milan in 2019 on an initial loan deal. However, the Parisians have not received the fruits of the transfer.

Mauro Icardi has failed to perform for the club and the hierarchy has decided to offload the striker. Luis Campos has been given directions to sell the Argentinian striker this summer. The club executive has identified Rafael Leao as the ideal replacement.

Rafael Leao has the potential to become one of the best players

The Brazilian has shone in the AC Milan team last season with 26 goal contributions in the league and is expected to develop further in the upcoming years. Luis Campos feels that the forward can become one of the best players in the future and wants to lure the player to the French capital. The forward is just 23 years old and has a lot of time to further improve his game.

However, Rafael Leao will not come cheap for the French champions. The 23-year-old is valued at €70 million by AC Milan. The Brazilian has two years left on his contract and AC Milan have no interest in selling him this summer. Thus, PSG will have to shell out a hefty amount to sign the player from the Rossoneri this summer.

Although, the Parisians might find it difficult to shell out such a huge amount due to Financial Fair Play rules. Nevertheless, Luis Campos is one of the smartest minds in the business and the sporting director will soon figure out a way!
