Real Madrid, the La Liga champions, are reportedly keeping tabs on Borussia Dortmund in the Bundesliga on 20-year-old American attacker Giovanni Reyna. The Spanish publication Defensa Central claims that Real Madrid is interested in signing Giovanni Reyna. For the 2022 FIFA World Cup, the defending La Liga winners have scouted the 20-year-old forward. And if the scouts bring back a positive report to Madrid, an approach may be in the works.
Despite being from Durham, Giovanni Reyna spent most of his formative years playing for New York City FC in the USA. In July 2019, the young person joined Borussia Dortmund and relocated to Europe. The American forward made the transition to the first-team squad a few years ago after spending some time in the Bundesliga club’s development division.
Giovanni Reyna performance for Dortmund
Since starting to play regularly for Dortmund, the 20-year-old has experienced fitness problems. He has played 16 times for the Black and Yellows thus far this season but is starting to make a comeback. Real Madrid, who scouted Reyna at the World Cup, are now interested in his development.
The Merengues have ruled over a number of participants in the ongoing month-long spectacle in Qatar. Cody Gakpo, who has excelled for the Netherlands, is one of Real Madrid’s primary targets at the World Cup. The 23-year-old was seen by Los Blancos at a recent Oranje vs. USA match. In that match, another player caught Real Madrid’s attention.
As a replacement for the USMNT, Giovanni Reyna was given the chance by Real Madrid to be inspected. The 20-year-old only played for 45 minutes as the USA was eliminated from the World Cup. But if the scouts give a good report, Real Madrid may still go on the attack.
Reyna can play three different offensive roles, which makes him versatile and a possible target for Real Madrid. The American forward is a possible wide-attacking option with Eden Hazard and Marco Asensio’s futures at the Santiago Bernabeu unknown.
However, the 20-year-old is a well-liked starter for Borussia Dortmund’s first team. Therefore, if Reyna becomes a priority target for Real Madrid, the Bundesliga’s juggernauts may provide challenges.
