Real Madrid could sign Roberto Firmino as an ’emergency option’

If they are unable to sign main target Kylian Mbappe, Real Madrid will make an emergency attempt to sign outgoing Liverpool veteran Roberto Firmino. According to the Spanish source Defensa Central, Real Madrid is interested in signing Roberto Firmino. However, the Merengues see the 31-year-old as a last-ditch possibility if they fail to sign their primary target, Kylian Mbappe. They have already enquired about the departing Liverpool star.

Real Madrid views Roberto Firmino as a backup option

Roberto Firmino’s eight-year spell with Liverpool will be coming to an end at the end this month. Under Jurgen Klopp, the Brazilian international has been a driving force in the Reds’ success in the Premier League. And he was the Liverpool manager’s go-to man season after season. Firmino’s time at Liverpool, though, will come to an end when the summer transfer window begins in July. And the 31-year-old, who joined the Merseyside club for €41 million, is excited for his next adventure. That opportunity could come from Real Madrid, with other teams interested in the departing Liverpool veteran.

Firmino has long been on Real Madrid’s radar. And, given Karim Benzema’s surprising exit, he is the market’s most comparable striker to the Frenchman. However, the Liverpool legend is not Real Madrid’s top priority coming into the summer transfer season.

This summer, Los Blancos are going to sign Kylian Mbappe from Paris Saint-Germain. The French international has stated that he will not renew his contract with PSG, which expires next year. Following the new update, the 24-year-old is now a priority target for Real Madrid. Mbappe, on the other hand, has recently denied reports that he wants to join Real Madrid this summer. If the Spanish giants fail to land the 2018 FIFA World Cup winner, they must look elsewhere for alternatives. As a result, Firmino has emerged as a probable back-up option if Mbappe does not join Real Madrid.

Liverpool will not recoup any portion of the €41 million investment for Firmino eight years ago. It will be fascinating to see if the Brazilian international’s next adventure will lead him to Real Madrid.
