Real Madrid could transform Eduardo Camavinga into their ‘Next Marcelo’

France

Real Madrid dominated Chelsea in their Champions League quarter-final match. Los Blancos were the more dominant squad, dominating both legs and having numerous nice scoring situations. The team looked good on the pitch. But Carlo Ancelotti was once again hiding the obvious flaws with his inventiveness and his players’ adaptability.

Real Madrid in search for their ‘next Marcelo’

Once again, the starting left-back position was improvised. Eduardo Camavinga’s performance in the position has regularly helped Real Madrid overcome the fact that the club has yet to identify an able heir to a position where legends have donned the famed royal white shirt. The shift from Roberto Carlos to Marcelo was relatively easy. However, Real Madrid have yet to find a permanent solution to the left-back problem this season.
Camavinga starting the game at left-back was not a surprise. This is because he has been a reliable choice there in recent months. The Frenchman was listed as a ‘Midfielder’ on the team list for both legs whereas Lucas Vazquez was listed as a ‘Defender’.

Camavinga might be Los Blancos new left-back

Vazquez has played for the Spanish national team on several occasions. However, his failure to secure regular minutes for Real Madrid, as well as a lack of clarity and consistency about his position, has harmed his career. The quick right-back was only expected to be a temporary replacement for Dani Carvajal, similar to Camavinga, who is currently in the opposite full-back position.

The futures of Luka Modric and Toni Kroos may also have an impact on Camavinga’s predicament. Both have been world-class for years, and the club’s administration has brought in a slew of talent to replace them in the long run. Aurelien Tchouameni, Dani Ceballos, and Federico Valverde are among them. Jude Bellingham is also said to be a summer transfer target. Camavinga may be forced to make an important decision in the near future. His position on the pitch is certainly debatable. If Real Madrid are unable to buy a world-class left-back this summer, it is possible that the Frenchman will continue to play there rather than his preferred position i.e. central midfielder.

Of course, Camavinga’s adaptability has earned him the admiration of both fans and management. So much so that there has already been talk of contract renewal. However, he cannot ignore the risks that come with it.
