Real Madrid eyeing a move for Villarreal centre-back Pau Torres

According to a report by AS, Real Madrid are keeping tabs on Pau Torres as they are willing to sign the Villarreal defender next season. The Spaniard was impressive last season with the Yellow Submarine, following which some clubs are interested to sign him.

Torres has been a part of the Villarreal team ever since he joined the youth team of the Yellow Submarine. However, he was sent on a loan for one season at Malaga to achieve some first-team experiences. But ever since he has returned from the loan, Torres has been the mainstay at the backline.

While his performance last season for Villarreal has rocketed his value in the transfer market. The Spaniard had been the main choice defender in the team for Unai Emery last season. Torres has paid back Emery’s faith by securing Villarreal’s first European trophy and securing a Europa League spot next season.

Torres has appeared 44 times in the yellow shirt last season while he helped the team to keep a maximum number of clean sheets. While he also chipped in 3 goals and assisted 2 goals in all competitions. His impressive performance against Manchester United in the Europa League final, helped Villarreal lift the Europa League title for the first time.

His performances at the backline last season has attracted Manchester United, Real Madrid, and Barcelona for a transfer. Following which Villarreal has given green light for a transfer, but they would not let Torres leave cheaply. The club president has already stated that Villarreal will not listen to any offer which less than €50 million. And If any club fails to sign Torres this summer, he will continue to serve for the Yellow Submarine.

Real Madrid keeping tabs on Pau Torres

Real Madrid suffered a lot in defending as their captain Sergio Ramos was out of the team due to injury. While Raphael Varane also missed games due to injury and coronavirus. However, Eder Militao and Nacho Fernandez put up a good performance at the back but that was not enough, as they conceded silly goals.

Los Blancos may have more problems at the backline next season, as Ramos is leaving the club this summer as his contract ends. While, Varane is also facing an uncertain future at the club, as his contract ends next season. The Frenchman is also linked with various clubs this summer following his uncertain future.

However, Madrid have already a strong defender option for next season. Real Madrid have announced the signing of David Alaba this summer. The Austrian will be joining the Whites as his contract ended with Bayern Munich this summer. But Madrid would be wanting a promising talent to pair with Alaba at the backline.

Following which Madrid are eyeing two youngsters Jules Kounde and Pau Torres for their backline. But the Whites might not be securing the deal with Kounde, because of his high valuation from Sevilla. But they are looking forward to signing Pau Torres next summer.

However, Real Madrid might not be able to sign Torres this summer, due to their financial condition. But they are laying their foundation to sign the Spaniard next summer or in the winter transfer window. While Manchester United are also favorites to sign Pau Torres. But, the Red Devils might be backing off the deal, as they seem to target Sergio Ramos for their backline next season. So, let’s wait and see what the future holds for Pau Torres in the next seasons.
