Real Madrid has seen a number of exits ahead of the summer transfer season. With the focus set on new signings, exit operations have been carried out to clear the way for new arrivals. Los Blancos, on the other hand, appear to be looking for new homes for a number of their bench players.
Odriozola wants to leave Real Madrid
Odriozola’s future remains uncertain, according to Radio MARCA (via Madrid Xtra). The Spaniard has asked to depart, but only to Real Sociedad. According to the report, La Real might not be willing to pay a fee for the player.
Odriozola joined Real Madrid from San Sebastian in 2018. But despite loan spells at Bayern Munich and Fiorentina, his career at Madrid has come to a standstill. As a result, he has never been a certain starter for the Merengues. The 27-year-old has a year left on his contract, so Los Blancos is hoping to get a good price for him before letting him go on a free transfer. With extremely limited playing time and little faith from the managers, he still cooperated with Real Madrid squad. Odriozola wants to return to Real Sociedad, where he previously played till 2018.
If a free transfer is not pursued, the only gain for Real Madrid would be the removal of Odriozola’s €7 million gross annual salary, which would free up that amount of money as well as a place on the squad for another player. The Basque side and Madrid have formerly conducted business together, so a consensual agreement that benefits both parties is not out of the question.
Given that Sociedad will be competing in the Champions League next season, a fee for the player to assist them bolster their roster is a distinct possibility.
