Real Madrid identify Kimpembe as potential Varane replacement

A tweet by journalist Ekrem Konur claims Real Madrid have singled out Presnel Kimpembe of PSG as a summer target.

With Raphael Varane’s exit looking more and more likely, Los Blancos are on the lookout for a long-term replacement. Their searches have brought them to Ligue 1, particularly Paris. Real Madrid now target the French giant’s centre half, Kimpembe.

Varane is heavily linked with a move to Old Trafford. The Red Devils and the Frenchman are believed to have agreed on personal terms. David Alaba’s arrival provides some relief to their defence. Nevertheless, they would need another central defender.

Kimpembe comes off the back of a solid season. He put up a string of stunning displays in the PSG backline. The French international has made 40 appearances for the Parisians in the 2020/21 campaign.

A Rock at the back

Presenel Kimpembe joined PSG’s youth academy in 2005 at age 10. He made rapid progression through the ranks and broke into the first team in 2014. Since then, he has been a key figure in the heart of their defence.

Simultaneously, the 25-year-old also established himself as a mainstay for the French national team. He formed a first-choice central defensive partnership with Varane. Fatefully, Kimpembe could now take Varane’s place at club level.

The Frenchman has approximately three years left on his contract. Real will have to make a substantial offer if they are to lure him away from the Parc de Princes.

Kimpembe is excellent at the back. He possesses superb defensive awareness that allows him to sense danger quickly and thwart it effectively. He makes crunching tackles to win the ball back and hardly gives away possession when playing it out from the back.

At 25, Kimpembe has time on his side. If the deal can be done before the start of the new season, the PSG ace will fit Carlo Ancelotti’s playing style well. Real Madrid will acquire immense quality with Kimpembe and could even reclaim the La Liga title.
