About Football Express India - Indian Super League - I-League

The new Real Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti has laid down his priority signing for the upcoming season. According to German news outlet BILD, the Italian wants to bring Borussia Dortmund left-back Raphael Guerreiro to Madrid.

Marcelo and Ferlan Mendy are the left-backs present in the Real Madrid squad and Ancelotti wants to add depth to it. He considers Raphael Guerriero as the ideal candidate for this position.

The 27-year-old defender has been an ever-present figure at Dortmund and is highly underrated. However, Real Madrid will have to spend close to €60 million, if they want to sign Guerreiro.

REAL MADRID WANTS GUERREIRO

Guerreiro has been excellent for Dortmund ever since his move in 2016 from FC Lorient. A dynamic left-back, the Portuguese is good in both attack and defense. His abilities with the ball mean that he can also play ahead in the midfield as well.

The 27-year-old has played 160 times for Dortmund. In this period, he has scored 29 goals while assisting for a further 32 goals. His performance has improved year on year. In the last season, he scored 6 goals and assisted 11 times in 40 appearances in all competition for Dortmund.

The Portuguese have also taken this performance to the international stage. He has played 47 times for Portugal and scored 3 times for them. His latest goal came in their 3-0 victory over Hungary in the group stages of Euro 2020. The left-back opened the scoring for his country towards the end of the match, helping his team win a crucial point.

REBUILD AT THE BERNABEU

Real Madrid are will enter the new season with much work to be done. The club captain and legend Sergio Ramos is leaving the club and could be joined by his defensive partner Raphael Varane on the way out. Thus the new signing Alaba could be used more as a central defender.

However, it is still to be seen if Real Madrid will be willing to spend over €60 million for Guerreiro. They still have Marcelo and Ferland Mendy as left-backs with the latter impressing with his performance.

Carlo Ancelotti must have discussed his recruitment strategies and priority targets before rejoining Real Madrid. If reports are to believed Guerreiro is among the top targets for Ancelotti. One cannot overrule the possibility of Madrid going for the Portuguese international, even if it costs huge sums.
