Real Madrid on the lookout for 17 year old young La Liga prospect

key youngster

Real Madrid always valued local talents, and it appears that they are now focusing on the Spanish market. Despite their long-standing pursuit of promising young talents in South America, the club is now looking to strengthen their domestic scouting network.

Real Madrid recently showed a keen interest in local talents, especially from rival clubs’ academies. The club has reportedly been eyeing five players from Atletico Madrid, with at least two already secured. Another young prospect who caught the eye of Real Madrid is Malaga youth player Izan Merino, according to Spanish outlet AS.

Izan Merino made an impact at Malaga’s Juvenil A team. His performances caught the eye of Real Madrid scouts. Despite being only 17 years old, the centre-back demonstrated a level of maturity that has been crucial in his development. He started the 2022/23 campaign with Malaga’s Juvenil B team before earning a promotion to the Juvenil A team. He continued to progress since then.

Will Real Madrid purchase Izan Merino?

Despite his young age, Izan Merino already made his debut for Atletico Malagueno, the subsidiary team of Malaga, at just 16 years old. The team is currently competing for promotion from the third RFEF and Merino has been a regular starter for them.

Indeed, it is quite impressive for a player of his age. Merino already attracted attention from several top clubs in Spain and Europe. However, it remains to see if Real Madrid can successfully acquire him and add him to their already impressive list of young talents.

If Real Madrid were to sign Izan Merino, it is likely that he would join their reserve team, Castilla. There he would have the opportunity to develop under the guidance of former Real Madrid player and current Castilla coach, Raul.

Indeed, while Merino showed remarkable potential at a young age, he will need time to develop and hone his skills to compete at the highest level. Joining Real Madrid’s Castilla team would offer him the opportunity to train under experienced coaches. He will also get to play against tough competition in the Spanish third division. It would be a stepping stone towards fulfilling his potential and making a mark at the Santiago Bernabeu.
