Real Madrid star Sergio Ramos agrees to sign for PSG

About Football Express India - Indian Super League - I-League

Sergio Ramos will be playing for PSG next season after his contract expired last month. The Spaniard bid adieu to Real Madrid which has been his home since 2005. Signed for €27 million, a record for a Spanish defender, Ramos was Florentino Perez’s only Spanish signing in his first stint.

Ramos has had an illustrative career spread over nearly 2 decades. He has made 747 appearances in which bagged 106 goals. Known for how he organized the defense and went for a challenge with pure passion, Ramos stole everyone’s heart with his sheer commitment to his club.

PSG are having a very busy transfer window themselves. They have been trying to extend the contracts of their key players and add a few more. And while they have been trying to get Kylian Mbappe to extend his contract, the youngster is heavily linked to Real Madrid.

Ramos to PSG details

Ramos became a free agent on Thursday. He had previously been looking to sign a one-year deal with PSG with an option to extend for another year. However, as of yesterday, he seems to have agreed to sign a 2-year deal. The deal is likely to last till June 30, 2023.

Apart from PSG, a few Premier League clubs were interested in Ramos. Reports suggest that they offered a higher paycheck. But it seems that PSG’s hunger and desire to strive for a major trophy has caught Ramos’ attention.

New team, not so new teammates

Ever since the departure of Thiago Silva, Prensel Kimpembe has been PSG’s defensive wall with very little support. Even the thought of a possible Kimpembe-Ramos partnership strikes terror in everyone’s minds. Keylor Navas, Angel di Maria and most recently Achraf Hakimi are a few who played at Real with Ramos.

Ramos has led Real Madrid to 3 consecutive Champions League victories and it would not be a surprise is he lifts another one in Paris.
