Spanish striker Joselu wants to rejoin his former club Real Madrid

Joselu was a member of Real Madrid’s youth squad for a while and even made his first-team debut for the Spanish capital club. But he decided to go in quest of regular playing time because there were already players like Cristiano Ronaldo and Karim Benzema at the Santiago Bernabeu. Joselu, who joined Espanyol the previous year, ended the 2022–23 season with a total of 17 goals and 4 assists from 38 games across all competitions. His achievements, however, were unable to save the Catalan club from relegation. Joselu is reportedly close to joining Real Madrid right now, with rumours claiming only an official announcement is awaiting.

Joselu has hinted that he would be moving to Real Madrid in midst of these rumours, as he stated (h/t Cadena SER) that:

“Any player on the planet would like to wear the Real Madrid shirt. It is the best team in the world.”

“Right now I don’t know what’s going to happen and, from there, I hope that what comes next is beautiful.”

Joselu will probably be viewed as Mariano Diaz’s replacement even if he shows up. Real Madrid had big intentions to bring in Benzema’s replacement after he left the team for Al-Ittihad. There have been rumours of a move for Harry Kane, but with Kylian Mbappe’s entry into the market, the Merengues are more likely to pursue his signature this summer. Joselu’s personal terms are said to have been settled, and only the formal announcement is still due.
