Real regard Luis Campos as key to signing Mbappe

Real Madrid have been linked with rehiring former Lille sporting director Luis Campos as they believe he could play a major role in aiding them acquire PSG’s Kylian Mbappe.

Mbappe, with a year left on his current contract, has yet to sign a new deal with the French giants.

The Spanish giants have long pursued the Frenchman. With uncertainty surrounding the World Cup winner’s future, Madrid are desperate to seal the deal this summer. Luis Campos could be the key to bringing the young forward to the Santiago Bernabéu.

Mbappe has registered 132 goals along with 61 assists in 171 appearances at PSG across all competitions. However, he has found it hard to make his mark at the Euro 2021.

Campos and Madrid go way back

Campos has ties with Real president Florentino Perez and general director Jose Angel Sanchez. He was a scout for Madrid between 2012-13 under Jose Mourinho. The 56-year-old then left Monaco before joining Lille as Sporting Director. He left Lille at the end of 2020 where his work culminated with them winning the Ligue 1 title.

It was at Monaco where Campos struck up a relationship with Mbappe following his incredible emergence at the club.

“I spent three great years there [Real Madrid] and I had a very good relationship with the president [Florentino Perez] and the directors,” Campos revealed in an interview. “But, for now, I can assure you that there is nothing agreed with anyone.”

Speaking about Mbappe Campos said: “It’s true that I know the family well, since Kylian was 14 years old. We have a great friendship, but that’s all.”

Real firmly believe that Luis Campos could be a boost in their pursuit of Mbappe.
