Robert Lewandowski out for a month after sustaining a knee injury

Bayern Munich have been handed their worst nightmare in the form of a Robert Lewandowski injury. The 32-year-old striker will be out for 4 weeks after getting injured on international duty for Poland on Sunday. He is set to miss a number of fixtures in the duration.

In the first match, he scored the last goal that earned his team a draw against Hungary that ended 3-3. The second match was against Andorra, where he scored 2 goals. In the same game, a nasty collision at the 1-hour mark saw him limp off the field. But they went on to win the match 3-0.

Lewandowski returned to The Bavarians after he was injured. After various scans, the medical report stated that the striker had strained the ligaments in his left knee. It further stated that he will be out for a month.

His injury has already affected his nation, but the remaining fixtures will be affecting the club. He has been their main striker and Bayern will be worried about his absence as the season winds up. They are only 4 points ahead of RB Leipzig in the Bundesliga and have a huge match-up coming in the Champions League.

How will this injury affect the run for Robert Lewandowski?

As the 2019/20 season was ongoing, Lewandowski was in a blistering form. He was clearly the best candidate to win the Ballon d’Or in 2020. However, the pandemic halted the season and the respective association decided to cancel the ceremony for that year.

It was heartbreaking as Robert Lewandowski deserved that recognition by a mile. There were petitions made to hand him the prize but nothing worked. Even the man himself said that he deserved to win it. With a heavy heart, he continued his form once the season resumed and ended with 55 goals to his name.

Lewandowski is currently having a record-breaking season with 42 goals already to his name. His Champions League form may be dull but he is beyond reach in the Bundesliga. He has scored 35 goals so far and is only 6 goals away from breaking the 50-year-old record held by Gerd Muller for the most goals in a single season.

He might be winning the recognition this year, but Lewandowski’ injury might not let him break the record. His absence for a month means he’ll be missing a total of 7 fixtures. If he is to return as per the scheduled time, he will have to score 6 goals in just 3 games. If anyone can do it, it’s Lewandowski.

How will Bayern adjust in Lewandowski’s absence?

Bayern will be without their key striker for a month which means they will have to go into the Champions League quarter-finals without him for the previous year’s rematch. They have drawn PSG in the next round of the competition.

Although the team is stronger even without him, they will be feeling his absence in front of the goal, especially Thomas Muller who has brilliant Chemistry with him on the pitch.

The resumption of the league fixtures will also see them face their closest competitors on the 3rd of April. RB Leipzig has an excellent defensive record and have conceded the least goals this season.

Bayern will have a strong team on the pitch — even without Lewandowski. Basically, you don’t wish an injury on anyone, but it is already the case that we are concentrating on our own performance.” – Leipzig Sports Director Markus Kroesche.

Robert Lewandowski’s absence means Hansi Flick will have to make a few adjustments. They have the reserve striker, Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting who has proved to be effective whenever he’s on the pitch.

If he is to get his chance, he’ll be having a surprising reunion with his old club which he left the previous year. in the quarter-finals of the Champions League. Or if Flick wants to add his German touch, he might even put Serge Gnabry upfront.
