What did Robert Lewandowski say about Lionel Messi?

He stated the following in a Mundo Deportivo interview:

“There is maybe one more player that plays for the same club [Kylian Mbappe] but there is only one World Cup that decides who is going to win it this season and Leo is now in the top position for sure because of what he has achieved that means everything to him.”

During the World Cup group stage, Robert Lionel Messi and Lewandowski faced off, with Argentina prevailing 2-0.

“I don’t want to explain what we talked about but it was a lovely dialogue. I know that even after losing the first game against Saudi Arabia, Argentina were the big favourites to win the title.”

Lewandowski said when asked if he would like to play with Messi before retiring:

“It’s not up to me. Of course, we see that now he plays more like a ‘playmaker’, maybe he scores fewer goals and gives more passes to his teammates although he continues to score them.

“But compared to other times, he is now the footballer that any striker would dream of playing alongside him.”
