Roberto Firmino is keen to join Barcelona this summer

After saying his farewell to Anfield and his teammates over the weekend, Roberto Firmino now sets his mind to the future after eight years at Liverpool, where he leaves as one of the club’s best-known players. According to reports in Spain, the experienced Liverpool forward will join Catalonia on a free transfer this summer.

Roberto Firmino might play in Spain next season

According to the newest transfer rumour out of Spain, he will likely join Barcelona in the summer. In addition he might reject Real Madrid, with both La Liga heavyweights rumoured to have interest in the star whose Liverpool contract expires this summer. According to the Spanish daily SPORT, the Brazilian international has shown interest in joining Barcelona this summer.

Scepticism is to be expected considering Firmino’s decision to leave Anfield was motivated in part by a desire for greater playing time. The desired game time would also be unlikely to achieve with Spain’s historic heavyweights. However a new challenge and the opportunity to play for one of such giants might well outweigh that.

And, perhaps according to Fichajes, being the clear first choice option will not define his destiny. Still, it’s difficult not to question if a move to Atletico Madrid would make more sense if Firmino wants to add a stint in Spain to his already illustrious career.

A return to Germany or a move to Italy would also appear to provide more alternatives for Firmino. The Brazilian wants to be a regular starter for a European club. Thus there have been few transfer whispers linking him with a move to the Bundesliga or SerieA at the moment.

Barcelona may employ some striking additions this summer, and the Brazilian international could be a great free agent acquisition. The 31-year-old has 12 goals in all competitions . Hence the striker might be a valuable addition of Xavi Hernandez’s first-team squad next season.
