Romano gives update on Romelu Lukaku transfer to Roma

Inter

Fabrizio Romano is famous for delivering noteworthy updates. This time he gives an update on Chelsea which the fans might find crucial. The focus of attention is on Romelu Lukaku in connection to Fabrizio Romano’s Daily Briefing. Lukaku bid farewell to the Euros qualifiers in impressive fashion this week. Thus, netting four goals and securing his place as the record-breaking top scorer.

Romelu Lukaku’s stellar performance in the Euros qualifiers adds to his already impressive start to the season. The Belgian striker has been consistently improving since his arrival at Roma late in the summer transfer window.

Roma is evidently eager to secure Romelu Lukaku permanently. And the prospect of such a deal might be more feasible than initially thought. As per Romano, although there isn’t a definitive purchase option in the loan deal, there exists a gentleman’s agreement. This implies that both parties are informally okay to a shared understanding of the potential transfer.

What did Romano say about Romelu Lukaku?

Romano says:

“From what I’m told, Romelu Lukaku has something like a release clause, but not a proper release clause.”

“There is a gentleman’s agreement between the player’s agents and Chelsea. Because they don’t want a situation like a few months ago in the summer transfer window when they had to negotiate with Juventus, then with Inter, then with Roma – it was a very complicated summer for Chelsea around the Lukaku story. And so there is now a possibility for him to leave for €40m – and that’s not just for Roma, that’s for any club.”

Given the apparent commitment from both Roma and Romelu Lukaku, it seems unlikely that Roma would withdraw from the deal at this stage. Additionally, considering Chelsea’s past experiences and the desire to avoid complications, it is sensible to expect the club to prioritize a cash deal for the attacker rather than taking the risk of pursuing more lucrative terms later on.
