Ronaldo and Messi are living very differently

Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi are the two great footballers this generation has seen. Watching them play is always a treat. Both are in the twilight of their careers.

Ronaldo and Messi in 2022

The year 2021, played out similarly for the two legends. Ronaldo moved from Juventus to Old Trafford. He was welcomed with open arms and warmth. However, he was not able to channel all the positive energy into his performance. He failed to help Manchester United to win neither the Premier League, FA Cup, Community Shield, or Champions League, nor he could help the Red Devils to finish in the Top-four.

The Portugal international had a terrible start to the year 2022 and experienced a significant goalless streak, going six games without scoring for the first time since the 2008-09 campaign. He failed to assist The Red Devils in beating Atletico Madrid in the Champions League round of 16, and he also missed a penalty in their FA Cup loss to Middlesbrough of the Championship.

Ronaldo now seems to be experiencing the humiliation of being a squad player after Erik ten Hag failed to inspire an immediate improvement. He has appeared in the Europa League, and in recent weeks, Ten Hag has substituted him.

Messi in 2021 had to take a tearful exit from Camp Nou to Paris Saint-Germain. His time with the Parisian club was tough. Although he was instrumental in helping PSG to win the Ligue 1 again, he could not help them to win the Champions League.

But this year, the eight-time Ballon d’Or has been able to get his best performance back. He has been able to not only win matches for Argentina but also for Les Parisiens (The Parisians). This has better the chances of PSG winning the Champions League in 2022.
