Sergino Dest is back on the Upward curve after long Decline

Several FC Barcelona players are now on loan from the team, and each of them is experiencing a unique season. One of these players, fullback Sergino Dest, is enjoying a rather successful season thus far.

The 22-year-old failed to live up to the expectations placed on him. When he signed a €26.2 million contract to join the Catalans from Ajax in 2020. He was moved on loan to PSV Eindhoven in the summer.

Sergino Dest finds Himself Back

The midfielder did not have much success during his two seasons at Barcelona. Or even his last season at AC Milan, as he rapidly lost recognition in both organizations. However, the fullback is reportedly enjoying a comeback while on loan at PSV Eindhoven. As he is not only making frequent appearances for the Dutch team but also turning in some impressive performances.

The American has appeared in eight Champions League and Eredivisie games, playing on both the left and right sides. His efforts have enabled Eindhoven to hold onto the top rank in the Eredivisie for the time being.

The player is benefiting from these performances as well; for the first time since 2021, his worth has improved. According to the most recent Transfermarkt report, Dest is valued at €13 million, which is €3 million more than the fullback’s summertime valuation.

Player Value

Dest’s career high was €30 million in the summer of 2021, but in the years after, the fullback’s worth has decreased.

Dest was signed by PSV Eindhoven this summer with the option to contract him permanently for €10 million at the end of the current campaign. Given his achievements and reevaluation, Eindhoven spending this €10 million to secure Dest’s permanent status would not be shocking.

However, in such a case, Barcelona will also have a share of the proceeds from any future sale of the player. Thus, if Dest goes on performing as he is currently doing, all parties will be satisfied.
