Sergio Busquets will play outside of Europe next season

Barcelona

Sergio Busquets has stated that after leaving Barcelona, he would like to play for a team outside of Europe. The renowned defensive midfielder left Barcelona at the end of the 2022/23 season, capping out a 15-year senior career at the club. Busquets won three UEFA Champions Leagues, nine La Liga crowns, seven Copa del Reys, three FIFA Club World Cups. He also made the third most appearances in the club’s history during that span.

Sergio Busquets hasn’t decided his next club yet

Sergio Busquets said in an interview with The Guardian that he hasn’t decided his next destination. In addition, he says that he currently has three to four offers, but nothing has been confirmed yet.

“I still don’t have plans, honestly. I do have three or four options but nothing is done.”

Sergio Busquets told The Guardian after leaving Barcelona that he is unwilling to play for any European team since it would set him to play against his boyhood club.

I don’t want to play for any European team: it would be hard to face Barcelona with anything serious in play, and I want to live a calmer, more relaxed experience,” he said.

“I would like things to get sorted quickly over the next two or three weeks.”

“The decision will be mine and my family’s, just ours. All of us have decisions to make now and maybe we will coincide, but there’s no plan.”

Back in March, it was reported that MLS team Inter Miami was determined to sign Busquets at the end of his contract, and had already made an initial offer to the player’s agents. The former Spain international also stated that he plans to complete his coaching qualifications in order to become a manager in the future.

“I would like to get my licence and prepare myself for it,” he exclaimed.

“I have an idea. The difficult part is managing a dressing room with 25 players, all with their egos. I’m interested to see if I can communicate with them, and convince them of what I want.”
