The Spanish defender and Real Madrid’s main man, Sergio Ramos disclosed in a recent interview that it will be easier for Real Madrid to pursue Erling Haaland than Kylian Mbappe in the upcoming transfer window.
Erling Haaland recently became the youngest and the fastest player to score 20 goals in the Champions League. He has been ruthless in this competition since his debut with RB Salzburg. However, Kylian Mbappe is also not one to be left behind. He also broke a record recently. He became the youngest player to score 25 goals in the Champions League.
Both the youngsters have impressed everyone, that they have been tipped to replace the Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo rivalry. Only time will tell if they can handle the hype and actually make it to the legendary level.
What did Sergio Ramos actually say about Erling Haaland?
Sergio Ramos has been playing for Real Madrid for almost 2 decades now. Currently, he is at the end of his contract, with no clarity in what his future at Madrid holds. But that doesn’t stop him from teasing the potential signings Real Madrid is going to make.
“Haaland or Mbappe if I were a coach? I would like to have both of them, but a coach does not sign. Perhaps, due to the circumstances and the current situation, today I think it would be a little easier to sign Haaland.” – Sergio Ramos said in an interview
Can Real Madrid afford both Haaland and Mbappe?
Real Madrid has been linked with both of the generational talents for a long time now. Until now it was clear that if Mbappe were to leave PSG it would be for the Los Blancos. Just like Ronaldo, Mbappe has the childhood dream of playing for Madrid. So, that deal is done. It’s only about when.
But given the current financial scenario, signing Haaland looks more sensible and probable than Mbappe. If the situations were otherwise, there is no question in why they would not afford them.
But the pandemic has changed a lot of potential deals. That is why pursuing Haaland looks like a more sensible option. Moreover, Mbappe is on the verge of signing a new contract with PSG which means the La Liga giants might have to wait longer.
Erling Haaland has a release clause of €75 million in his contract which will only be activated in 2022. But, if a club is not patient enough to wait that long, it is said that Borussia Dortmund is willing to listen to offers upwards of €100 million.
Kylian Mbappe on the other hand was valued at €180 million when he moved to PSG. Given the current situation, if he does not renew his contract, any bid around the above will be enough. But if he goes on to sign a new deal, the price will definitely rise.
