Shillong was honoured for its sports achievements by the joyous Meghalaya Football Team

The Meghalaya Football Team makes history by winning the Silver Medal. And also the Kamala Gupta Trophy in the recently ended 76th National Football Championship Hero Santosh Trophy. Which is on March 4th at the King Fahd International Stadium in Riyadh. The Meghalaya football team made history. They reached the last stage of the coveted Santosh Trophy for the first time since the state’s creation.

Karnataka overcame Meghalaya in a thrilling final match on Saturday in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. This was the state team’s best finish in the coveted national event.

Once an Agreement was reached between the All India Football Federation (AIFF) and the Saudi Arabia Football Association. However, the semi-finals and finals of the oldest national tournament were contested outside the subcontinent for the first time.

The Department of Sports and Youth Affairs organised a Road Show today for Team Meghalaya’s brilliant homecoming. Beginning with a flag-off ceremony at Mawlai Madan Heh at 2:30pm. And continuing through Jaiaw Jingthangbriew, Jaiaw St Joseph, Jaiaw Langsning, Jaiaw Pdeng, Mawkhar Main Road, Motphran, Police Bazar, AG’s Office, Additional Secretariat, Barik

Over 50 Bikers, Cheerleaders, and Emcees followed the squad through the roadshow, spreading positive sentiments. And asking the public to be proud of the team’s outstanding results. However, the Strait Brothers and Gracel Ropmay gave upbeat performances at the occasion. It also featured motivational and celebratory remarks from Shri Shakliar Warjri, Minister of Sports and Youth Affairs for the Government of Meghalaya, and Shri Larsing Ming, President of MFA. The squad also presented the Department of Sports and Youth Affairs with an autographed jersey. And a football, as part of the Government’s financial incentives programme for sports achievements.

Shakliar, the newly appointed Minister of Sports and Youth Affairs, congratulated the triumphant Team.

“Moving forward, I hope all the athletes of Meghalaya take heart from the achievement of the Meghalaya Football Team. And realise that success is never far from their reach,” said Shakliar Warjri. However, these athletes are role models who must inspire you to keep working hard and know that the government will do all possible to help you achieve excellence. It is a significant goal of the Meghalaya government to develop the state as a sporting centre and to cultivate the tremendous talent in the state. Our goal, whether at the national or international level, is to assist promising athletes from Meghalaya in reaching their full potential.”
