Ter Stegen and Ginter return to the Germany squad

Hansi Flick has announced his latest Germany 23-men-squad for the upcoming international break. The new squad will mark the return of Barcelona goalkeeper Marc-Andre ter Stegen, while Matthias Ginter of Borussia Monchengladbach also makes his return.

The arrival of Ter Stegen and Ginter meant that few players will miss out on the squad. Most notable of these are midfielder Ilkay Gundogan and goalkeeper Kevin Trapp. Robin Gosens also will not be available after picking up an injury.

Flick will be looking to build on the excellent start that he had last month. By bringing in Ter Stegen and Ginter, the German manager will be trying to test the depth of his squad as they will face both Romania and North Macedonia in the coming week.

TER STEGEN, GINTER RETURNS AFTER INJURY, GUNDOGAN AND TRAPP MAKES WAY

The arrival of Ter Stegen will surely provide competition for captain Manuel Neuer. The Barcelona star was famously not part of the EURO 2020 team as he took time to undergo surgery and work on his fitness. The 29-year-old is having a bad start to the campaign, as Barcelona are struggling both domestically and in Europe.

Neuer is still the number one choice for Germany, but at 35 is not the future. Ter Stegen will be hoping to claim his berth as the best goalkeeper of the country, though at the moment, this remains a dream for him.

Ginter on the other hand is returning back after not being available the last time around due to illness. However, a bigger question to answer will be the depth in the left-back position as Gosens is missing out due to injury. This leaves only David Raum as the traditional left-back in the squad.

Germany is in a good position and can take another solid step forward in qualifying for the Qatar World Cup with victories. Flick has already made an impact on how the side is playing and more games will surely help the Germans to get back to their ruthless self. The nation will face Romania at home on the 9th for their first match in this international break.
