Chelsea star Thiago Silva penned an emotional letter to his past self. That is reflecting on his time at Stamford Bridge as his future with the Blues becomes more intricate. The Chelsea defender has been a defensive mainstay at Chelsea for the last three years. That is following his free transfer from Paris Saint-Germain.

Having inked another one-year extension at the beginning of the season, Mauricio Pochettino now has a mere eight months to negotiate yet another extension. That is if he wishes to retain the services of the Brazilian international for the following campaign with Chelsea. Silva is often a crucial figure famous for the team’s defensive injury woes.He has endeared himself to the fans and is contemplating his deep connection with the club. That is as he approaches the twilight of his career.

Thiago Silva said: “The end of my career is getting closer… it’s not easy. You’ve to think about when you want to retire, where do you go as final club, the family, my kids play at Chelsea.”

Current Premier League Standings

What is the next destination of Thiago Silva?

Thiago Silva’s displays this season have been exceptional, featuring in every available minute of Premier League action. Notably, he scored his sixth goal for the club, contributing the pivotal equalizer in the intense 4-4 clash against Manchester City last weekend. His adept glancing header from an inswinging corner underscored that he remains a potent threat from set pieces. However, the possibility looms that he might conclude his illustrious career outside of the Premier League.

Fluminense president Mario Bittencourt maintains the belief that the Brazilian defender could potentially return to his home country. And thus play for an additional year following his ‘retirement’ from European football. The star’s childhood team, Fluminense, would be the prime destination if he were to make a return to his homeland.

The discussions about retirement seem to have stirred a sense of sentimentality in Silva. In an interview with Premier League Productions, he reflects on his journey by addressing his younger self. In the video, he imparts advice on navigating through his life-threatening illness in 2006, the importance of heeding his family’s guidance, and the determination to persist in the pursuit of silverware.
