There are a number of legends who have worn the number 7 jersey at Real Madrid. We immediately think of Cristiano Ronaldo, Raul, Amancio, Raymond Kopa, Juanito and Emilio Butragueno. It is a heavy shirt to wear, and unfortunately, Eden Hazard has not done it justice despite having all the talent in the world.
Hazard became a Premier League legend at Chelsea before joining Real Madrid in the summer of 2019. It was a Galactico signing, as the club shattered their transfer record to sign the Belgian. It made sense to hand him the number 7 jersey, since he would be the team’s face going forward.
There have been a few setbacks along the way. Hazard’s move to Real Madrid turned out to be a mistake. These days, he rarely appears on the field.
Away from the league, Hazard has not played since September. The club, however, seems to have plans in place for the number 7 jersey.
Real Madrid to offer number 7 jersey to Brazillian youngster
Bruno Andrade tweeted that Real Madrid will offer Vinicius Junior a shirt number change next season. It is possible for the Brazilian to wear either the number 7 or 11.
This has taken Vinicius a couple of years to establish himself as a superstar at Real Madrid. He was the one who scored the winning goal against Liverpool in the Champions League last season. In this case, the club would be wise to give him a more commercially successful shirt number, such as 7 or 11.
Hazard’s future remains uncertain, however. Despite having a year left on his contract, he is expected to leave. A new club would not be easy to find for him.
In spite of the fact that Asensio is not a starter, he still plays an important role for the team. Whether he gets a new contract will depend on the outcome of his contract in the summer.
