Wayne Rooney Wants Phil Jones at Derby County in January

Derby County are looking to sign Manchester United outcast Phil Jones in the January transfer window.

The 28-year-old Phil Jones plays as a centre-back for Manchester United since 2011. And during his time for The Red Devils, he has made over 165 appearances in all competitions where he has scored 2 goals.

During his initial years, he was a starter and he was a preferred choice as a centre-back under Sir Alex Ferguson.

However, Jones started to come down the ranks as United started signing new defenders. Harry Maguire, Victor Lindelof and Eric Bailly became favorites to start in his position. Therefore he wasn’t given much playing time and he became a benchwarmer.

A MOVE TO DERBY ON THE CARDS FOR JONES?

Jones‘ expulsion from the 25-player Premier League list for Manchester United has raised the possibility of him exiting the club. He is desperate to get back on the pitch.

He was supposed to leave last summer. However, a transfer away from Old Trafford failed to materialize. The interested clubs backed out at the last minute due to the high wage demands. The inflated wage bill at Manchester United led to yet another deal falling through.

However, Derby County have expressed their interest in signing the centre-back.

Derby, who sit 22nd in the EFL Championship, are looking to bring in defensive recruits as they want to strengthen their backline. And they feel Jones would be a perfect fit at Derby for their defensive requirements. Manager Wayne Rooney will be delighted to reunite with his former teammate so they look set on signing him.

Therefore it will be exciting to see on what terms does Phil Jones leave Manchester United. And if the wage issue happens again then what is United planning to do in order to successfully offload Jones who doesn’t have a part to play for the Red Devils.
