Xavi requests Barcelona to bring in a new right-back this summer

Juan

According to Diario SPORT, Xavi Hernandez has asked the Barcelona management to sign a new right-back at any cost as the summer transfer window approaches. The plea from Barcelona’s coach comes after an upsurge of speculation over Jules Kounde’s future. The Frenchman is said to be dissatisfied with his situation at Barcelona. Rumours claims that he is planning to depart if he continues to play at right-back next season.

Xavi wants a world class right back in his squad next season

Although Kounde has explicitly rejected these claims, he has surely informed Xavi of his displeasure. This may have played a crucial role in convincing the Barcelona coach to seek a new right-back this summer.

According to Diario SPORT, Barcelona has three possibilities for the right-back position. The first is Juan Foyth from Villarreal, despite the fact that Barça has had little success negotiating with the Yellow Submarines in the last year or two. Villarreal are considering a large sale this summer. However Barcelona target Juan Foyth is unlikely to be the one to leave Castellon. The World Cup winner’s release clause climbed from €42m to €54.2m last summer, and the only way to get him out of La Ceramica is to pay that cost, which Barcelona cannot afford.

Joao Cancelo is another option who is well like by Xavi. Due to his technical talent and experience at the highest level of football, many have identified him as the club’s number-one target at the right-back position. As a result, Barcelona might think about a loan deal for the player this summer. However, the club’s pursuit of Cancelo will be hampered by Manchester City’s preference to sell the player rather than loan him out again. Benjamin Pavard is Barcelona’s third option. The Frenchman has been a long-term target for Barcelona, especially given his difficulties at Bayern Munich. With his contract expiring in 2024, the defender should not be too expensive. Unfortunately for Barcelona, Bayern Munich may be hesitant to allow Pavard leave this summer. This is because Cancelo will return to Manchester City at the conclusion of the season, leaving Thomas Tuchel with little choices at right-back.

As a result, Barcelona will face a difficult spell in the market in their search for a new right-back. But Xavi might push Barca to sign a quality right back.
