Angel Di Maria is all set to join Juventus

About Football Express India - Indian Super League - I-League

Angel Di Maria who has been on Barcelona’s radar for a while has preferred to sign for Juventus on a free transfer ahead of the 2022-23 season.

Reports from Gazzetta Dello Sport claim that Spanish giants Barcelona has lost the race to sign the Argentine winger to the Bianconeri.

Angel Di Maria will become a free agent by the end of June as his contract with PSG expires then. His availability on a Bosman deal drew attention from all over Europe. As a result of which Barcelona and Juventus were the front-runners to get his signature.

Barcelona’s interest in the Argentine

The Catalans have actively been fishing for a right-wing in the transfer market. Especially after speculations of Ousmane Dembele leaving the club emerged, the club has intensified its hunt.

The 5-time Champions of Europe had Leeds United’s Raphinha as their top priority for a while. But as things stand, the Brazillian is moving closer to the Gunners’ Emirates Stadium. That leaves Barcelona to call it quits on their La Masia product.

Di Maria didn’t choose Camp Nou

The Copa American champion saw a time when he could have chosen Barca but didn’t. The 34-year-old simply didn’t have time to adjust to the Spaniards’ financial debts and compromise.

Reports also claim that playing for Barcelona would only mean hatred from the Camp Nou stands. The well-decorated La Albiceleste player was once a Real Madridista which could be one of the reasons for not joining Barcelona.

Juventus’ interest in Di Maria

The Bianconeri has been actively wanting to see Fideo play for them since last summer. The Old Lady offered him a year’s contract and want to sign him on a free from Paris Saint-Germain.

The Serie A heavyweights are willing to offer the Champions League winner and former Manchester United midfielder wages up to £7 million a year. The player took time for himself during the international break to respond to the Italians’ offer and finally did.
