Sporting have made Francisco Trincao’s loan deal permanent by triggering a clause in the agreement. They paid Barcelona a transfer fee of €10 million for the Portuguese winger’s services. However, Francisco Trincao, who had been on loan at Sporting from Barcelona, will now permanently join the Portuguese side in a deal worth €10 million. Sporting decided to activate the purchase option included in the loan deal after the winger’s impressive performances during the season.

According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Barcelona will receive a sum of €10 million for forward Francisco Trincao. The Portuguese club decided to activate the purchase option included in Trincao’s loan deal after the winger’s impressive performances this season. Barcelona initially signed the Portuguese forward from Braga for €31 million in July 2020.

Why did Trincao struggle at Barcelona?

Barcelona signed Trincao from Braga in July 2020 with high hopes for the youngster. However, Trincao struggled to showcase his full potential at Barcelona and ultimately did not meet expectations.

Trincao’s former manager also said:

“I think he came to the best club at the worst time. In a context of instability that was by no means suitable for a young boy with his whole career ahead of him and everything to prove. That naturally negative environment made everything very difficult. He didn’t find the patience he would need. It was an accumulation of everything. I think that at that time Barça did not play the game of possession, of dominance. I think that this did not benefit Trincao, who is a player who has the ball in the opposite field, in short spaces.”

Indeed, Trincao’s hefty price tag and the high expectations that came with his move to Barcelona likely put a lot of pressure on the young player. Unfortunately, patience is not always a virtue that is easily found at Barcelona. As many players have learned in the past. The club has a history of expecting quick success from new signings. If they do not deliver immediately, they can quickly find themselves on the outs.
