Barcelona, Real Madrid, and Atletico rejuvenate La Liga title race

About Football Express India - Indian Super League - I-League

Barcelona, Real Madrid, and Atletico Madrid have had some big wins and the race for the La Liga title is heating up. All three club’s forwards are also in the race for the Pichichi award.

At the halfway stage, initially, it seemed that Atletico Madrid might be winning the league quite easily. But, their lack of consistency cost them a lot as they currently just have a four-point lead at the top. Whereas, their rivals, Real Madrid are not letting the leaders easily win the title they won last season.

FC Barcelona are back to their best once again and currently second in the table. The Madrid clubs, Real and Atletico, won 3-1 and 1-0 to Celta Vigo and Alaves respectively. Whereas Barcelona were the best performers with a 6-1 thumping away win in the La Liga.

Can Atletico win La Liga once again after the 2013-14 season, surpassing Real and Barcelona?

Atletico Madrid surprised everyone in the 2013-14 season winning their tenth La Liga crown. That season, David Villa joined them from FC Barcelona and won the league.

Coincidentally, Luis Suarez had made a move to Los Colchoneros this season and is leading his team to the title. The La Liga table looks similar to the 2013-14 season with the Catalan club just behind the leaders, Atletico. Can Suarez motivate his new club towards their eleventh Spanish League accomplishment or will they stumble?

There are still ten matches left for all three clubs and it would be interesting to see whether who has the final laugh. Real Madrid have a major boost after the return of prolific goalscoring players like Karim Benzema and skipper, Sergio Ramos. They are back in the contention for Champions League after an excellent performance against Atalanta.

However, the greatest comeback has been from the Blaugranas. They, unfortunately, were knocked out from Europe, but are on an 18-match unbeaten run in the La Liga. Also, their best player, Lionel Messi is back to his best form and is currently leading the Pichichi race. Thus, a domestic double is in sight of Koeman.

The 6-1 thumping win is surely a warning for Los Blancos and Atletico. The next away match in the La Liga for Barca is the El Clasico, which will be played by the club in its new kit. Also, Atletico are yet to play the Cules away at Camp Nou. Thus, these two matches would decide the fate of these three big clubs for the title race.
