Barcelona winger is considered as Messi’s replacement for PSG

Perplexing case of Dembele's injury

Barcelona ‘s financial condition appears to be improving as the summer transfer window approaches. The Catalans are on the verge of returning to the 1:1 rule for departures and arrivals, as well as meeting La Liga’s pay wage limits. However, there is still some disagreement about who the club will depart in the summer. After all, Xavi Hernandez just won La Liga with the current lineup. Hence Each player appears to  be crucial. Ansu Fati, Ferran Torres, and Franck Kessie are among the players certain to be leaving Spotify Camp Nou.

PSG eyes Barcelona winger Dembele as Messi’s replacement

According to SPORT, another Barcelona player who has sparked interest in the market is Ousmane Dembele. Paris Saint-Germain are particularly interested in the Barcelona star, seeing him as a viable replacement for the leaving Lionel Messi. This may, ironically, lead to a virtual player trade between Paris and Barcelona, but Xavi Hernandez is unlikely to agree. Ousmane Dembele may not have performed a significant role in Barcelona’s 2022-23 season. His contribution in the first half of the season, though, cannot be underestimated. This season, the winger has five goals and five assists in 23 games for the Catalans. He is, without a doubt, indispensable under Xavi Hernandez. When fit, the Frenchman is the team’s natural starter. Also it is apparent that the Blaugrana rely heavily on him to break down defences.

Dembele’s injury-plagued stint at the club ended earlier this season, capping off a difficult few years at the club. In discussing his contribution and role under Xavi Hernandez, he stated that injuries had been a major stumbling block in his progress.

“I could have done a lot better statistically. I’m still dissatisfied with the injury that has kept me off the pitch this season. My development at Barça has been delayed by injury.”

Meanwhile, PSG hopes to utilise Dembele as a resource to persuade Kylian Mbappe to stay. The youngster is one of four summer targets for the French team, which also includes Randal Kolo Muani, Bernardo Silva, and Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg.

Dembele is under contract with Barcelona until the summer of 2024, with €50 million termination clause. The clause is definitely cheap for a player of his calibre. Hence the Catalans are hoping to strike a deal on a contract extension until 2027 soon.
