Bayern Munich managing a tough win over Copenhagen in UCL

About Football Express India - Indian Super League - I-League

Bayern Munich strong performance in the group stages of the Champions League persisted on Tuesday. As they secured a come-from-behind 2-1 victory against FC Copenhagen on matchday two. This triumph also marked a historic achievement. With Bayern becoming the first team in Champions League history to remain unbeaten in 18 consecutive group stage away games.

While Bayern Munich may not have been at their best on Tuesday, they displayed commendable character. They staged a comeback after conceding a goal in the 55th minute. The credit for this resurgence goes to Thomas Tuchel, who made the right substitutions in the second half. Thus, effectively boosting Bayern’s tempo and ultimately leading them to a hard-fought victory.

Following the crucial second goal late in the game, the Rekordmeister effectively managed the match by maintaining possession. However, in the dying minutes, Sven Ulreich was called upon to make an incredible save to safeguard Bayern’s lead. A deflection from Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting seemed destined for the goal, but Ulreich’s intervention prevented the unfortunate mishap.

Bayern Munich keeper Ulrich made some crucial saves

Sven Ulreich faced a challenging match against RB Leipzig on Saturday, but he delivered a strong performance against FC Copenhagen. In a post-match interview with Kicker, the 35-year-old goalkeeper acknowledged that the team has shown greater resilience compared to the previous season. He expressed the belief that they would have crumbled under similar circumstances if the match against Copenhagen had occurred last season.

While the current season has indeed seen a change in the team’s resilience and character, it’s important to note that the sample size is relatively small. Bayern Munich has demonstrated these qualities in a few notable instances. They staged a comeback from a goal down away at Borussia Monchengladbach on matchday three, securing all three points. Additionally, the team displayed great character in the recent match against RB Leipzig, where they salvaged a point after falling two goals behind in the first half. These examples indicate a positive shift in their mentality this season.

In addition to the improved mentality and resilience within the squad, Thomas Tuchel’s astute substitutions and game management have played a crucial role in Bayern Munich’s ability to stage comebacks. An excellent example of this was seen in the match against Copenhagen. There Mathys Tel and Thomas Muller, who came off the bench, combined to secure the winning goal in the 81st minute. Tuchel’s tactical changes and the impact of his substitutes have been pivotal. That is in turning the tide in favor of Bayern on various occasions.
