THE HAALAND SITUATION

Dortmund’s Sporting Director Michael Zorc has stated that the club will not let their star striker Erling Haaland leave the club this summer. However, if Dortmund doesn’t qualify for the Champions League, the Norwegian will be pushing for a move.

With the pandemic affecting the finances of football clubs, Dortmund will be forced to cash in on their asset if they failed to finish in the top 4. Replacing Haaland will be a tough task.

The 20-year-old is one of the best players in his position at such a young age. He has already scored 37 goals in 38 appearances for Dortmund this season and has also assisted a further 11 goals. The Norwegian is breaking all the records on his way and is attracting interest from every top club in Europe.

DORTMUND TO REPLACE HAALAND WITH ANDRE SILVA

In Andre Silva, Dortmund can have a great replacement for Haaland. Though 5 years Haaland’s senior, Andre Silva is still only 25. He already has experience in Bundesliga and can settle well into the Dortmund squad.

Silva is a Portuguese international, who started his career from the youth setup of FC Porto. He secured a move to AC Milan after his breakout season where he scored 16 goals for Porto in Liga NOS. His time with the Italian team did not go as planned. Silva was later shipped to Sevilla and Frankfurt on loan.

It was during his loan spell at Frankfurt that he hit double-figure again in the league. This made Frankfurt make his transfer permanent at the beginning of this season. Silva has returned his club the favor scoring 25 goals in Bundesliga this season.

He could set the record for most goals in a Bundesliga season by a Frankfurt player if he can score 2 more goals. The current record which stands at 26, set by Bernd Holzenbein, is in serious threat with 3 more games remaining in the league.

All the speculation regarding the move will depend on the transfer situation of Erling Haaland. Manchester United and Barcelona are also interested in Andre Silva who has his contract with Frankfurt till June of 2023. With more competition, there is a big chance for a bidding war for the 25-year-old.
