Cascarino Labels Hojlund ‘Championship Level,’ Ten Hag’s Job at Risk

Rasmus Hojlund was supposed to be the next big thing for Manchester United when he joined them from Borussia Dortmund. In 2022 he joined Manchester United for a whopping £72 million.

However, after 13 appearances in the Premier League, he has failed to score a single goal. Hojlund’s lack of confidence, movement, and finishing has been evident in every game, and he has been rightly criticized by pundits and fans alike.

Tony Cascarino, a former footballer and pundit, even suggested that Hojlund is a Championship-level player at the moment. Hojlund’s dismal performance has been one of the main reasons why United are struggling to keep up with the top teams in the league. They are in danger of missing out on the Champions League qualification.

Cascarino take on hojlund

While speaking to The Times, Toni Cascarino analyzed the Danish striker’s challenging introduction to his tenure at Manchester United. He said:

“I can’t believe Rasmus Hojlund hasn’t scored a Premier League goal yet. He joined Manchester United for £72 million, has started ten games and it’s almost Christmas.”

He’s only 20 years old and hopefully he turns out to be a good player, but I can’t remember a striker making a start like this to his United career.

“This will sound harsh, but he reminds me of a good Championship centre forward who battles away, fights for everything, not much pace… I’ve seen glimpses of quality but there haven’t been moments when I’ve come away thinking ‘He’ll get 20 goals’.”

He subtly criticized Erik ten Hag in his remarks.

“As a manager you can’t wait too long for a striker to come good. I think of Roberto Soldado at Tottenham Hotspur. They gave him two seasons and the second was even worse than the first. It’s like a goalkeeper who keeps dropping it in the net. If you wait too long to move on, you’ll be sacked.”
