Having joined Chelsea from Norwich City in the summer, Matos is still in the early stages of his career with the club. And thus adapting to new surroundings. However, early signs indicate that the rising star possesses the potential to be a special player. With a promising future ahead.

Matos has quickly become noticeable in Chelsea’s Under-21s games, showcasing a significant physical presence primarily as a central midfielder. His versatility allows him to play further forward in an attacking midfield role when required.

Chelsea puts high hope on Alex Matos

In addition to notable performances in the academy, Matos has already made his debut for the Chelsea first team. He has featured in both the Premier League and the Carabao Cup, indicating early opportunities at the senior level.

In December, Chelsea head coach Mauricio Pochettino shared intriguing remarks about the club’s young talents, including Alex Matos. Speaking through Guardian Series, Pochettino expressed being “really impressed” by Matos when he has trained with the first-team players. He described the English teenager as “talented” and highlighted his competitiveness when interacting with senior members of the squad.

It’s encouraging to know that Pochettino continues to keep a close eye on the academy, even amidst the challenges on the pitch. The hope is that he hasn’t already played his last first-team minutes for the current campaign.
