De Jong to Manchester United is now closer than ever

Frenkie De Jong is now closer than ever to the English club, Manchester United. As per reliable journalists in Spain and England, the two clubs have come to an agreement. The fee is said to be around £72 million with potential adds on. Erik Ten Hag is pushing for this transfer to solve the Red Devils midfield issues. He sees De Jong as the perfect player for that deep midfield position who can also drive the ball forward.

But a transfer like this is easier said than done. Barcelona has not said ‘NO’ to him moving away if they get the right price. But a potential transfer would also include the player’s willingness of moving to a new club. In this case, De Jong is clearly against the idea of moving to Old Trafford and has made this clear to both parties. Despite Barcelona reaching an agreement with Manchester United, things are at a standstill.

Barcelona’s salary structure is too big to register their new signings. The club has made new signings even after being in massive debt. The club activated its economic levers and was able to invest in the market. But that does not hide the fact that these players need to be registered. Frenkie De Jong is one of the highest earners at the club despite taking a wage cut. The club owes him a huge amount of salary since last year.

De Jong Hesitant To Move To Old Trafford

No agreement will do any good if the player does not want to leave. So is the case with Frenkie De Jong. The player is adamant to stay at Camp Nou with no intention to leave. The case is even worse for Manchester United as they will not be playing Champions League football this season. Frenkie is not at all open to joining a team that won’t be competing for the biggest club trophy.

It will be interesting to see if the Red Devils will be able to convince De Jong to move to Old Trafford. Eric Ten Hag might have to be the one to lead the proceedings given his relationship with Frenkie. On the other hand, Xavi believes in Frenkie De Jong fully but understands the economic situation of the club and would not force the club to keep him.
