Memphis Depay is close to leaving Barcelona. The dutch international’s future is up in thin air. Depay was the main man for Barcelona last season, being their top scorer. However, this season is very different from the last ones. The arrival of Lewandowski, Raphinha has made it all the more difficult for Depay to find a starting spot. Coach Xavi has told Depay that it would be better for him if he leaves. But if does stay, then he would not start every game and will have to settle for a spot on the bench.
Depay has been adamant about staying at Barca. The 27-year-old is feeling surplus to the needs of the team. But he still feels he can prove his worth to the coach. Depay feels he can start ahead of the likes of Lewa, Ansu, and Ferran if he continues to work hard. The determination and will is unquestionable but reports say that with so many attackers, Depay will have to leave.
The dutchman has not been in contact with any club as such. But there are clubs in Europe who are willing to sign the Attacker. One of them is Serie A giants Juventus. The Bianconeri are looking for a versatile in the market. With Alvaro Morata gone, Juventus have turned their heads towards Depay. The Old Lady are hoping to strike a reasonable deal with Barcelona to get Depay.
What Happens If Depay Stays?
Leaving is not an option that Memphis is considering at the moment. The winger is hoping to prove to everyone that he has much more to offer at Barca. He has also recently been stripped of the No.9 but that does not stop him from doing what he wants. The Catalans offered him a contract till 2024 but would be willing to let him go if a worthy offer comes in for him.
With as many as 7 attackers excluding Depay, it is difficult to see where he will fit it this side. Robert Lewandowski, Ansu Fati, and Ousmane Dembele look to be the guaranteed starters. Raphinha , Ferran, and Aubameyang will be offering support from the bench. Ez Abde also is an option for Xavi with Collado also knocking on the door. It will be interesting to see how Xavi and the club tackle this situation.
