Arsenal have been heavily linked with a move to sign Aston Villa star Douglas Luiz. In the January transfer window, but transfer insiders don’t think it will happen.
Midfield Priority
In the winter window, the Gunners will give priority to their midfield. They are said to be interested in a few elite midfielders, and they need a fresh guy to play in the middle of the pitch next to Declan Rice. One of those is Luiz.
Douglas Luiz has been on Arsenal’s radar for more than a year.
On the final day of the summer transfer window of the previous year, the Gunners attempted to sign him; however, Aston Villa resisted and ultimately managed to hold onto him.
Mikel Arteta‘s interest in Luiz hasn’t gone away. In recent weeks, Arsenal has been strongly connected to a bid to sign the Brazilian, but the transaction is extremely challenging to finalise.
Villa are in a far better situation than they were a year ago. And Luiz will come at a much higher price than he would have fourteen months ago.
Financial Burden
TeamTalk provides an update on the issue. With individuals close to the negotiations saying that the financial implications would make an Arsenal approach for Luiz in January “dismissible.”
Regarding Real Sociedad’s Martin Zubimendi, who has also been strongly connected to a move to the Emirates Stadium, they have the same position.
Douglas Luiz Alternatives
Luiz is thus very unlikely to sign with Arsenal in January as things stand.
Given the importance of Douglas Luiz and Martin Zubimendi to Aston Villa and Real Sociedad, respectively. It was always going to be challenging for Arsenal to recruit either player in the midst of the season.
In addition to Luiz and Zubimendi, the Gunners have been connected to many other midfield players, many of whom will be far simpler to sign during the January transfer window.
Gunners are reportedly interested in São Paulo’s Pablo Maia, although Arthur Vermeeren is a goal due to his enormous skill. If Manchester City is willing to give Kalvin Phillips to their competitors for the Premier League crown, then he may also be a possibility.
