Mousa Dembele’s Career :
The Belgian started at AZ Alkmaar in the Dutch League and introduced himself to the European football circuit. He was a regular at Alkmaar and made his name as an aggressive ball-winning midfielder. His performances earned him a dream move to the Premier League.
Fulham snapped him in 2010. He went on to make 75 appearances for the Cottages before making a move to Tottenham Hotspur. In the prime of his career, Dembele was a regular starter for Spurs and Belgium. His performances often went under the radar as the likes of Harry Kane grabbed the limelight. However, he was always highly spoken of by his teammates and coach.
Mousa was easily one of the most talented players Spurs have had in this modern era. Physically dominant, bags of skill. He never seemed to lose possession.
“I always say to him, ‘Mousa, when I write my book you will be one of the five geniuses I have been lucky enough to meet. Maradona, Ronaldinho, Okocha, De la Pena and Mousa Dembele.” – Pochettino
He retired from international football in March 2019. Dembele finished 3rd in the World Cup for Belgium, his biggest achievement in his playing career. Dembele left for China after having troubles with injuries. He to date remains a cult hero of the Premier League and the streets won’t forget his period for Spurs under Pochettino.
