There is some worry among Barcelona fans regarding the contract status of their young midfield talent, Gavi. Although the 18-year-old signed a new deal with the club last year, it has yet to be officially registered with La Liga.
Barcelona was able to enroll Gavi as a first-team player in January through a court’s precautionary measure. But the registration was annulled last month, and the 18-year-old midfielder is now back on his youth contract.
According to reports, there is a clause in Gavi’s contract that allows him to leave Barcelona as a free agent if he is not registered as a first-team player before July 1. As a result, some top clubs like Bayern Munich, Chelsea, Liverpool, and Manchester City have shown interest in the midfielder. However, despite concerns from some Barcelona fans, the club is reportedly calm about the situation. They are confident that Gavi wants to stay with the club.
Can Xavi make Gavi stay at Barcelona?
There is a new report from David Bernabeu Reverter on SPORT. It states that Gavi has privately confirmed to Barcelona manager Xavi Hernandez that he has no intentions of leaving the club this summer. The report states that Xavi had a private conversation with the 18-year-old academy graduate to learn his thoughts amid the ongoing contract registration issue. It seems that Barcelona are confident of keeping hold of Gavi. Despite interest from other top clubs such as Bayern Munich, Chelsea, Liverpool, and Manchester City.
Xavi said in a pre match conference:
“I don’t think Gavi would be happy at a different club, he has everything here at 18 and is an important player for the team. I think his future is here at the club.”
Gavi reportedly expressed to Xavi that he wants to remain at Barcelona for the long term and is content with his role in the team. However, the only concern for him is the ongoing contract registration issue, which he hopes will be resolved soon.
Xavi views Gavi as a fundamental player in his plans for the team’s present and future. However, the manager has reportedly asked for Gavi to improve his goalscoring ability and final pass.
Regarding the contract registration issue, Xavi is not worried. He has left it in the hands of the club to resolve the situation as soon as possible.
