Several reports suggest that Manchester City midfielder Ilkay Gundogan reaching a complete agreement with Barcelona have been downplayed by his agent. Ilkay Gundogan’s current contract with Manchester City is to expire in the summer. This means he is free to enter into negotiations with foreign clubs.
Despite the long-standing rumors linking him with a move to Barcelona, Ilkay Gundogan’s agent denied the Manchester City midfielder reaching a ‘full agreement’ with the Catalan club. Gundogan’s current contract with City is to expire in the summer. Hence, this means that he is free to negotiate with foreign clubs. On Friday, a report stated that there is no formal agreement so far. But a move to Barcelona for the German midfielder was getting closer.
Is Ilkay Gundogan transfer to Barcelona a possibility?
It’s true that Barcelona’s current financial situation makes signing players without having to pay a transfer fee more appealing. The club already signed Andreas Christensen and Franck Kessie on Bosman deals last summer. Therefore, it makes sense that they will express interest in securing the services of Ilkay Gundogan for free if they can. However, it remains to see if a deal can be agreed upon between the player and the club.
According to an interview with Spanish outlet AS, the agent of Ilkay Gundogan provided an update on the midfielder’s future. He stated that there is no final decision yet.
“I’m surprised about the news regarding an agreement being closed as there’s no full agreement with any club now.”
“It is not yet decided where he will play in the coming seasons. His only focus right now is on Manchester City.”
Barcelona desperately needs a pivot midfielder in hopes of replacing Busquets. Ilkay Gundogan seems to to be the perfect one for this job. However, only time will tell whether Barcelona will opt to go for the German midfielder.
