Jordi Alba is set to leave Barcelona after 11 years at the club

Gerard Romero reports that Barcelona veteran Jordi Alba would depart the club at the end of the season, with official sources verifying the journalist’s report. Alba has one year left on his contract with Barcelona, but the club has been pressuring him to depart since they cannot afford to pay his salaries, which will rise to €30 million for the upcoming season due to delayed payments and the incremental structure of his contract.

Jordi Alba’s departure helps Barcelona financially

For some time, there have been discussions of mutually terminating his contract or perhaps reducing his income. The 34-year-old has always stated that he wants to finish his contract at Barça. Alba has previously hinted that he would be willing to help the club financially by taking a pay cut. However, the two parties have chosen to part ways. Jordi Alba made the decision to leave. The experienced full-back is also likely to forego a significant amount of the compensation owing to him by the club.

Alba left Barcelona’s La Masia academy at a young age before returning in 2012 following spells at Cornelia and Valencia. Since then, he has been the club’s sole left-back starter for the better part of a decade. He made over 450 appearances and winning six La Liga titles and one UEFA Champions League trophy. However, Alba lost his starting spot to Alejandro Balde during the 2022/23 season. Hence it became clear that he does not play a significant role in Xavi’s plans at the club.

Barca left back might depart to italy or join Atletico Madrid

Alba’s tenure at Barcelona has come to an end, welcoming a new generation at one of the world’s most historic clubs this summer. He announced his decision in a video posted to his social media accounts, looking back on his illustrious time at the club. Alba has decided to take on a new challenge, though it is uncertain where he will end up. Inter Milan and Juventus have both expressed interest in signing the veteran. While Saudi Arabia has been mentioned as a possible destination, he might have a shock switch to Diego Simeone’s Atletico Madrid.

For the time being, however, preparations will be underway for Alba and Busquets’ final farewells at Camp Nou, when Barcelona hosts Mallorca in the league on Sunday.
